The product we purchase at the store may work well but you may be surprised at how well the homemade products will work.
Baking Soda may be one of the most recognized and use full items we have around our home for cleaning. Since baking soda is a mild abrasive it won't scratch most services and good for cleaning kitchens and baths. You can sprinkle baking soda on a wet sponge to clean counter tops and bathtubs. It's also the main ingredient in carpet fresheners so you can sprinkle it on your carpets and vacuum after a few minutes.
Cleaning Solution:
1 cup Vinegar
1 cup Water
1 spray bottle
Add vinegar and water into the spray bottle and mix. You can use this mixture on a daily basis to wipe your counter tops in the kitchen and bath. You can add a drop of lemon, orange or pine to the mixture for an added scent. The vinegar will dissolve quickly so the smell will not linger. I like to use white vinegar because it is tougher on the stains. You can also add a teaspoon of liquid dish washing detergent for an all-purpose kitchen cleaning solution.
Window Cleaner:
1 cup Isopropyl Rubbing Alcohol
1 cup Water
1 tablespoon White Vinegar
Spray bottle
Mix this into a spray bottle and shake well. It's good for use on chrome and glass surfaces. The rubbing alcohol leaves your glass free of streaks. Be careful when using paper towels sometimes they will leave the lint behind. Try to use a cotton cloth.
Furniture Polish:
1/2 teaspoon Olive Oil
1/4 cup Vinegar or fresh lemon juice.
Pour this into a spray bottle and shake. Spray a small amount onto a cloth (not directly onto the wood surface) and then apply to the wood. The oil replenishes the wood. I like to use this on my wood doors and trim where I don't dust as often to make them look like new.
Lemons, Vinegar, Baking Soda, Olive Oil are all great items to keep around the house to make inexpensive and non-toxic cleaning solutions.
