Homemade Mosquito Repellent

There are many available recipes and ides for making your own homemade mosquito repellent but one that may work best depends on how much effort you are willing to take.

 I came across an article recently on how to make Mosquito repellent using lavender oils, vanilla extra, and lemon juice and mix it up in a bottle.  The recipe can be found here .

Some say Listerine will kill mosquitoes. 

Listerine is mostly water and alcohol which means it will evaporate quickly wherever it is sprayed. So possibly spraying it on mosquitoes would kill them but spraying it on hard surfaces may not work.

Neem Oil - the Neem tree's pesticidal and medicinal properties have been known and used for centuries in India. The bark of the neemtree is used for cosmetics, health care products and medicinal preparations.

Put some water in a white dinner plate and add just a couple of drops of Lemon Fresh Joy dish washing soap. Set the dish on a porch or patio. Not sure what attracts them, the lemon smell, the white color, or what, but mosquitoes flock to it, and drop dead, or fall into the water, or on the floor within about 10 feet.

Vanilla extract (used on your pulse points) is a good way to repel mosquitoes. You do have to reapply You can use imitation with the same results.

Some plants may repel mosquitoes also such as musquito shocker or Chrysanthemums. Mosquitoes are also know not to like the smell of Marigolds.

Eucalyptus is one of the more popular plants here used to repel mosquitoes. Lemon grass is also good and rose. To make Anti-Mosquito Spray, you can combine 10 ml Eucalyptus, 5ml Rose and 5ml Lemongrass essential oils with 80ml water. Shake well before using and spray on yourself or around the room.
